Lady Bears Fall to N.C. State, 3-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 19, 2008)-Playing against one of the league's weakest members, Friday evening's match against North Carolina State in the opening match of the East Carolina Invitational was a golden opportunity for the Lady Bears to pick up their first win ever over an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponent in nine meetings.

However, with 18 attack errors along with 14 service errors, the Lady Bears hindered their chances, as they dropped a 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-21) non-conference decision to the Wolfpack at Minges Coliseum.

N.C. State, which improved to 5-8 on the season, was led by Arlee Tamietti's match-high 12 kills, while Alex Smith tallied 20 assists.

Erin Cox led Morgan State (1-13) with a team-high nine kills and a match-high nine digs, falling shy of a double-double. Rhyan Shy added eight kills and Christa Rogers finished with six kills to go with her match-high 25 assists. Camille Coleman had a team-high hitting percentage of .600 with three kills on five attempts and no errors.

The Wolfpack finished with 33 kills and just six attack errors for a hitting percentage of .375, while Morgan State had a season-high 34 kills for a hitting percentage of .188. N.C. State held a 6-2 blocking advantage over the Lady Bears.

Morgan State returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, when it takes on host East Carolina at 1 p.m., before closing out the tournament with a 5 p.m. match against Marshall.
